Summer 2026 Classes: European Portuguese Adult Language Sessions
NOTE: All classes are "virtual," using the Zoom appThe Summer 2026 European Portuguese Adult Language Sessions offer a 12-week virtual course conducted via Zoom. This program is well-suited for families, travelers, and business professionals aiming to improve communication skills, prepare for travel, or fulfill Portuguese citizenship language requirements.
Students will develop proficiency in grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and useful phrases. The curriculum emphasizes practical language use for everyday situations while also incorporating cultural and historical insights about Portugal, providing a well-rounded learning experience.
Class Days / Times
We offer several VIRTUAL classes for Adults & Children 13 and older:
- Beginning Level 1: (For Absolute Beginners) Sunday 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM Pacific Time
- Beginning Level 2: Sunday 10:30 AM - 11:50 AM Pacific Time
- Intermediate: Sunday 1:00 PM - 2:20 PM Pacific Time
Language Instructor: Sergio Pedrosa
Sergio is a Luso-American raised in the Portuguese enclave of New Bedford, Massachusetts, who also spent significant periods from childhood through young adulthood in Figueira da Foz, a coastal city on Portugal’s Silver Coast. He completed his high school education in Portugal and began his university studies in Coimbra, a renowned academic center, before transferring to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. There, he earned a BA in History and an MA in Portuguese Studies. During his graduate program, Sergio served as a teaching assistant, leading courses in Introduction to Portuguese and Luso-American Literary Studies. Since completing his graduate studies, he has worked professionally as an educator.
Sergio’s passion for cultures was sparked early, inspired by receiving a globe and atlas in third grade, fueling a lifelong curiosity about the lives and traditions of people worldwide.
He joined the IDESST Sausalito Portuguese Cultural Center in Fall 2022, where he teaches Portuguese across multiple proficiency levels to students of all ages. As someone with a family learning the language, he understands the challenges and frustrations of acquiring Portuguese without daily immersion. Sergio is committed to both supporting and challenging his students. With him as your instructor, you can expect to be encouraged to speak from day one while enjoying an engaging exploration of Portuguese language and culture.
