Each year, we set out on a culinary journey across the full map of Portuguese flavor. This year, this journey takes us from the hearty greens of the north, to the colonial spices of Mozambique, down to the sun-soaked south where Portugal's culinary roots intertwine with its Iberian neighbors.
We begin the evening with Camarão Moçambique, a spicy shrimp dish born from Portugal's colonial ties with Africa, alongside classic presunto e queijo. From there, we travel north with Caldo Verde, Portugal's beloved kale soup and one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Gastronomy.
Rice arrived in the Iberian Peninsula through the Moors in the 8th century, who brought both the grain and the irrigation techniques to grow it. The word "arroz" - Portuguese and Spanish alike — comes directly from the Arabic "ar-ruzz." As rice cultivation spread across southern Iberia, from Andalusia to the Alentejo and Algarve, a shared tradition took root: rich, saucy, communal rice dishes cooked and served from the same pot.
As a tribute to that shared heritage, our main course is paella, prepared by our Vice President, Jim Lino, and his team. Jim has spent years mastering this craft, cooking for crowds large and small. This year he’s bringing that mastery to our Hall, sharing a dish he’s passionate about with the community he loves.
Only 100 seats available, and when they're gone, they're gone.
An Evening That Feeds Your Soul (and Your Curiosity)
5:30 PM | Doors Open: Step into the warm welcome our Portuguese Hall is famous for. Savor our curated list of Portuguese wines, along with beer and non-alcoholic options at our no-host bar, open all evening.
5:30-6:15 PM | Appetizers: A selection of appetizers with global Portuguese influence to start the evening right.
6:15-8:30PM | Dinner: Enjoy a delicious 3-course meal to the sound of live classical and Latin guitar, courtesy of Daniel Matchain, who studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
First Course: Caldo Verde, Portugal's beloved kale soup, served at your table.
Main Course | Family-Style Feast: Paella takes center stage, served family-style alongside a fresh salad; designed to bring even more warmth and togetherness to the table.
Dessert: Flan, paired with a complimentary small pour of Tawny Port.
Why This Matters (beyond the incredible food)
Every ticket you purchase directly supports the Hall's ongoing programs and traditions. You're not just attending a dinner; you're investing in our community's cultural future.
Attire: Dressy/Cocktail (because great food deserves great style)
With only 100 seats at intimate tables, this will sell out fast. Don't be the one asking, "When's the next one?"
