While walking down Turney Street in Sausalito earlier today we noticed for the first time this stamp in the curb just a few steps from the intersection with Caledonia (near #411 Turney). Tony Brabo was a long time member of our Center, and for many years owned a concrete company in Mill Valley. We knew that his company’s stamp could be found in some of the sidewalks around Mill Valley, but this is the first time we have ever come across one here in Sausalito.
The story of Tony, and his wife of 83 years, Mary Bettencourt Brabo, is included in our Walking Tour Guidebook at Stop #19 - our original hall on Filbert Street. Tony and Mary met for the very first time at the 1929 Festa do Espírito Santo - two months later they eloped.
The Mill Valley Historical Society did a very nice Vignette with a story about Tony and the Memorial Rock which is outside Mill Valley City Hall. As you will see, that rock has a Sausalito heritage!https://www.mvhistory.org/vignette-memorial-rock/
